PORTLAND, ME- The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Maine Mariners, Thursday night, by a score of 4-3, at the Cross Insurance Arena.
Jared Fiegl scored his first professional goal, but the Monarchs (13-13-1-1) could not complete the comeback against Maine Mariners (16-11-0-1).
The Mariners opened the scoring at 5:23 of the first period, with a goal from Ty Ronning, earning his fifth goal of the season. After a defensive zone faceoff, Ronning picked up the puck and sent a wrist shot past the glove of Monarchs goaltender, Charles Williams, to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs answered at 7:04 of the first period, making the score 1-1, with a goal from Jared Fiegl, earning his first professional goal. After a shot from Jack Nevins, Fiegl crashed the net and put the puck home, past Mariners goaltender, Brandon Halverson to even the score.
The Mariners regained the lead at 14:59 of the first period, with a goal from Greg Chase, scoring his third goal of the season. Chase skated around a Monarchs defenseman, and snapped a wrist shot past the glove of Williams, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead.
After a scoreless second period, the Mariners extended their lead to 3-1, at 1:00 of the third period, when Jason Salvaggio scored his second goal of the season. Salvaggio picked up the puck in front of the Monarchs goal off a rebound, and quickly slipped a backhand shot past Williams.
The Mariners continued their scoring at 6:43 of the third period, with a goal from Morgan Adams-Moisan, earning his sixth goal of the season. After a turnover by a Monarchs defenseman behind the net, Adams-Moisan gathered the puck in front and ripped a shot past Williams, giving the Mariners a 4-1 lead.
Twenty seconds later, at 7:03 of the third period, the Monarchs responded with a goal from Daniil Miromanov, scoring his third goal of the season. Nic Pierog carried the puck into the Mariners zone, where a Mariners defenseman poked the puck straight to Miromanov. Miromanov then snapped a wrist shot past the glove of Halverson, making the score, 4-2 Mariners.
The Monarchs cut the lead to 4-3 at 19:33 of the third period, with a power-play goal by Pavel Jenys, earning his seventh goal of the season. After pulling Williams, the Monarchs had a six-on-four advantage over the Mariners. Joe Sullivan put a shot on goal, where Jenys pushed the puck past Halverson on the rebound to make it a one-score game.
