Monarchs Run Through Railers, 5-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Manchester Monarchs notched their third straight win Sunday afternoon against the Worcester Railers at SNHU Arena by a score of 5-2.

The Monarchs (22-18-1-1) scored three goals in the second period against the Railers (19-18-3-2) and emerged with a win for the third straight game.

The Railers opened scoring at 3:09 of the first period, when Nick Sorkin scored his ninth goal of the season. Josh Holmstrom wristed a shot from the slot, where Sorkin tipped home the rebound to make the score 1-0, Railers.

The Monarchs answered at 4:56 of the first period when Joe Sullivan scored his sixth of the season. Sullivan sniped a shot from the right circle, over the arm of Railers goaltender, Mitch Gillam, to make the score, 1-1.

The Monarchs took the lead at 8:06 of the first period when Tony Cameranesi scored his 11th goal of the season. Cameranesi carried the puck into the offensive zone and roofed a shot, over the blocker of Gillam, to make the score, 2-1.

The goals kept coming for the Monarchs at 1:21 of the second period when David Kolomatis scored his eighth goal of the season. Kolomatis received a pass at the center of the blue line and took a shot, that found its way through traffic and past Gillam, making the score, 3-1.

The Monarchs scored again at 12:05 of the second period on the second goal of the game and 12th of the season by Cameranesi. Spencer Watson pushed the puck to Cameranesi at the top of the right circle, where he sent a snap shot past Gillam, to make the score, 4-1.

The Monarchs made it a four-goal game at 18:55 of the second period when Sam Kurker scored his ninth goal of the season, on the power play, to make the score, 5-1.

At 5:43 of the third period, Tyler Barnes scored his 12th goal of the season to cut the lead to three, but that was enough for the Monarchs to hold on to a 5-2 victory.
